ILCA is intensifying efforts to reduce Africa’s medical aid needs. The African continent has a high incidence of liver cancer. However, there are limited scientific and clinical resources in many parts of Africa for diagnosing, treating and researching this disease. ILCA recognizes the immense clinical and scientific need for this strategy and will develop a strategy that engages African healthcare professionals and organisations in education and training activities.

ILCA is intensifying efforts to reduce Africa’s medical aid needs. The African continent has a high incidence of liver cancer. However, there are limited scientific and clinical resources in many parts of Africa for diagnosing, treating and researching this disease.
ILCA recognizes the immense clinical and scientific need for this strategy and will develop a strategy that engages African healthcare professionals and organisations in education and training activities.
Who is eligible to apply for ILCA Africa Fellowship Programme?
- The candidate must be located in Africa. The fellowship recipient may complete the program in Africa, or at the institution of the mentor (if not outside Africa).
- Candidate must not be older than 40 years and be enrolled in post-doctoral research in liver cancer-related disciplines within a private or public non-profit organization that is involved in health care and related research.
- Candidate must hold a PhD/MD and be pursuing postdoctoral research that includes basic and/or clinic research. Eligible candidates are those who have completed a post-MD Fellowship or Residency and are engaged in liver cancer research. Letters of commitment must be signed by candidates if they hold full-time faculty positions to confirm their support for the Fellowship requirements.
- Candidate must be a current ILCA member and continue to be a member throughout the fellowship.

Mentor must be a current ILCA member and in good standing at time of application
Membership is for the entire fellowship period. Mentors do not have to be located in Africa.
Mentors who are not members of ILCA should apply online for renewal or new membership.
What criteria are used to choose applicants?
Applications will be reviewed by the ILCA Executive Committee and the ILCA Education Committee and the Fellow will be publicly recognized during the Africa HepatoPancreatoBiliary Cancer Consortium Conference (25-28 August 2022) and the 16th ILCA Annual Conference (1-4 September 2022). In July 2022, the successful applicant will receive notification. The results of the selection process within the ILCA Community will also be announced.
Which countries are eligible to participate?
All African Countries are eligible to participate.
