This is how it goes. Create an article about a current tax policy topic. They want a meaningful analysis rather than a news or legal report. Pick a topic, take a viewpoint, and explain why it matters in the tax world. For example, you could focus on U.S. taxpayers disclosing overseas assets, issues with crypto transactions, or difficulty with enforcing the OECD’s Pillars One and Two. Anything goes as long as it is tax-focused and policy-oriented.

Who is eligible to compete in the Bloomberg Student Writing Competition?
- You must be a part-time or full-time law student at an accredited U.S. law school or international equivalent, or an undergraduate or graduate tax, accounting, or business student.
- Co-authored or collaborative papers are encouraged.
- The word count for entries should be between 750 and 1,750 words.
- Work must be unique and not previously published.
- Although there are no footnotes or endnotes, you can link to sources. Make careful to give credit to any sources or quotes you use.
- You are welcome to include charts or graphs in your article, but you are not compelled to do so.

This summer, they’ll publish the winning entry—along with possibly a few additional standouts—as one of their Bloomberg Tax Insights. This year, the winning student will also receive a one-year membership to Bloomberg Tax, ensuring that they do not miss any tax news or updates.
What is the procedure for entering the Bloomberg Tax Insights Student Writing Competition?
Send all entries to [email protected] with the subject line “Student Submission.” Send the entry in plain text, either as a text file or entered directly in the body of the email or as a PDF. Other attachments or formats will not be allowed, and zip files will not be accepted.
At the end of the entry, provide your entire name, school name, and email address—they will redact this information for their judges, so this placement is crucial.
